Event Visibility
Public, unlisted, private, and restricted — the three switches that decide who can find and open an Event
Visibility is not one setting: publication, the visibility field, moderation, and the schedule each change what a stranger sees.
Read this when an Event is published but nobody can find it, or a link works for you and not for a buyer.
The three switches
| Switch | Values | Who sets it |
|---|---|---|
| Publication | Draft, published, archived | You |
| Visibility | Public, unlisted, private | You |
| Moderation | Active, under review, suspended, banned | Ulsav staff |
A public page needs published, non-private, and unrestricted.
The matrix
| State | Direct link | Discovery | Series or group page | Organizer list |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Draft, any visibility | Not found | Hidden | Hidden | Shown |
| Published, public | Works | Listed | Listed | Shown |
| Published, unlisted | Works | Hidden | Listed | Shown |
| Published, private | Not found | Hidden | Hidden | Shown |
| Published, cancelled or completed | Works | Hidden | Hidden | Shown |
| Published, postponed | Works | Listed | Hidden | Shown |
| Published, archived | Not found | Hidden | Hidden | Only with an explicit archived filter |
| Restricted (suspended or banned) | Not found | Hidden | Hidden | Shown |
Archiving also removes it from the default organizer list; filter for archived to see it.
Two rows surprise people.
- Unlisted Events still appear on their series and group pages. Unlisted means "not in search", not "invisible everywhere".
- Postponed Events stay in discovery but drop off series pages. Their own page keeps working with the notice, so the link you already shared does not rot.
Public, unlisted, private
Public is the default: the Event appears in discovery, on its collection pages, and at its own address.
Unlisted keeps the page working for anyone with the link but removes it from search and city counts. Use it for invite-only programmes and staff previews.
Private removes the page entirely: a link returns "not found", like a deleted Event.
Unlisted is a soft signal, not a security boundary: slugs are guessable, and an unlisted Event still lists on its series page. Make it private if it must not be found.
Moderation
Ulsav staff can restrict an Event independently. The state overrides what the Event can do without rewriting your history.
| Moderation state | Public page | Sales | Organizer edits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Active | Served | Open per Pass windows | Allowed |
| Under review | Served | Open per Pass windows | Allowed |
| Suspended | Not found | Closed | Blocked |
| Banned | Not found | Closed | Blocked |
Under review is a flag, not a lock: the Event keeps selling while staff look. Suspended and banned are enforced: every write returns a suspended error, including edits you would otherwise be allowed.
You cannot clear moderation yourself; contact Ulsav support.
Sales paused is not hidden
Pausing sales leaves the Event where it is: the page stays up, discovery still lists it, and cards mark it paused so buyers do not click into a dead checkout.
An Event that vanishes when sales close looks cancelled; a visible pause label tells the truth.
Exact venue and the privacy gate
An Event can hide its exact location. With the exact-venue flag off, discovery omits the venue name and street address and rounds coordinates to two decimals, roughly a one-kilometre grid.
What survives is the city, the region, and the approximate point: enough to browse a map, not enough to turn up at a door. The exact address still appears on the Event's own page.
Turn it on only for a public place.
Worked example
Priya builds three versions of the same workshop.
- A public listing with the exact venue off: discovery shows "Bengaluru" and no street address.
- An unlisted preview link for the venue manager: it opens, but search never shows it.
- A private draft for next year: the link returns "not found" for everyone, including her.
When the venue cancels, she postpones the public one. The page keeps working with the notice and discovery keeps listing it, while the series page quietly drops it.
Edge cases
| Situation | Result |
|---|---|
| Publish a private Event | Allowed; not reachable publicly |
| Share an unlisted link | Works for anyone with the URL |
| Archive a published Event | Link stops; history stays readable by ID |
| Cancel a published Event | Link still works, with the notice |
| Suspend an Event mid-sale | Page disappears and checkout closes |
| Turn off exact venue | Venue text hidden, coordinates rounded |
